Sustainable growth - interview of Evelyn Kirchmaier to 'Corriere del Trentino',

SDGs, sustainable growth and Markas

04.11.2021 - Italy

In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which constitute a call for action by all nations and that should be achieved by 2030.

These goals play a vital role in addressing the most important challenges of our time and in laying the foundations for a better future.

At Markas, we believe that the private sector should be a key advocate of sustainable growth. That's why we have embarked on a journey to better structure our 2030 Agenda approach.

In a recent interview with 'Corriere del Trentino', Evelyn Kirchmaier, our General Manager, speaks about Markas' commitment to achieving Goal 8.

Promoting sustainable economic growth and decent work for all

There should be a number of goals at the heart of every company's activities and strategy. For instance, Goal 8, which promotes inclusive and sustainable economic growth, productive employment and decent work for all, is fundamental because integration is a key factor for future employment and consequently economic growth.

The sector in which Markas operates is very competitive and is regulated by several national collective agreements. Cleaning and catering jobs are often a starting point for people who move to Italy looking for a job.

In fact, among our staff there are people of 84 different nationalities and different cultural backgrounds. This makes integration an important topic for our business.

Therefore, one of our priorities is ensuring an inclusive working environment, fair treatment and special welfare programs for our employees.

The 2030 Agenda: an opportunity for a better tomorrow

In 2020, we began our journey by defining an ambitious medium to long-term sustainability plan. In order to identify the objectives, and above all determine their feasibility, the entire organization was involved. The first phase of this journey will be the publication of the first Markas Sustainability Report, scheduled for 2023.

This document's key objective will be to keep stakeholders up to date regarding the progress of all our projects that are associated with the SDGs.

"I believe that this a great opportunity. It provides a benchmark for the various players involved, from public administration to private companies and citizens, and they all have similar goals. The 2030 Agenda has managed to become a standard that everyone can aspire to" says Evelyn Kirchmaier during her interview, underlining Markas' willingness to set its sustainable development plan in accordance with the proposed goals.
