The secret of our success: our employees

We firmly believe that satisfied, motivated and healthy employees are the key to the success of our business. With their performance, our employees guarantee the high quality of our services and the satisfaction of our customers and are thus our most important resource.

For this reason, we attach great importance to investing in the well-being of our staff and continuously strive to create a pleasant and motivating working environment in which everyone feels comfortable.

Inclusive working at Markas

We are convinced that everyone - regardless of their mental and physical conditions - deserves a chance on the labour market and that diversity in the workplace promotes team spirit and productivity. In cooperation with the partner institutions HausAktiv, MyAbility, NEBA and the initiative MAG Menschen und Arbeit of the province of Lower Austria, Markas is therefore intensively committed to the inclusion of people with disabilities.

We want to actively address motivated applicants who face particular barriers in the labour market and offer these people a workplace that is individually targeted to their needs, helping them to become more independent and grow both professionally and personally.

Our declared goal is to fill between 80 and 90 vacancies with people with disabilities in the next three to five years.

Great Place to Work®

We want to offer our employees the best possible working conditions. Because of this, we have regularly taken part in the internationally recognised "Great Place To Work®" employee survey since 2014. This allows us to keep an eye on the satisfaction of our employees and take targeted measures to continuously improve ourselves as an employer.

With success: according to the latest survey, 82% of our employees believe that Markas treats everyone fairly and with respect - regardless of age, nationality, gender or religion - and 75% of respondents would recommend Markas as an employer.

Thanks to positive evaluations like these we have been awarded the "Great Place to Work" certificate several times, which shows us that we are headed in the right direction with our efforts to keep our staff members happy and motivated.

"Work and family" audit

As a family-run company, family-friendliness has always played a special role for us. More than 82% of the employees at Markas Austria are female - it is therefore a matter of course for us to create an environment in which work and family are compatible in the best possible way.

Our employees benefit from measures such as flexible work schedules that take into account individual private circumstances, home office solutions as well as flexitime regulations for our headquarter staff. We also place an emphasis on the active management of parental leave and thus ensure that many employees return quickly after childbirth. And since we know that women with caring responsibilities often have poor labour market opportunities, we cooperate with the Austrian women's shelters in order to help the women living there find a job and become financially independent.

Because of measures like these Markas has been recognised as a ''family-friendly employer'' by the audit committee ''berufundfamilie'' and we are committed to further invest in an improved work-life balance also in the future.

Workplace health promotion

Healthy employees perform better, are less prone to illness and feel happier. For this reason, we regularly offer a variety of activities and measures aimed at promoting the physical health of our employees.

Thanks to initiatives such as discounts at fitness centres, various sport activities, informative events on topics such as exercise and nutrition, or the annual health day that takes place at our headquarters and offers a wide range of health promotions and offers, we have received the seal of quality for workplace health promotion (BGF).

Keep Balance Hotline in cooperation with "Hilfswerk Niederösterreich"

The mental wellbeing of our staff is just as important to us as their physical health. We want to make it as easy as possible for our employees to get professional help when they need it.

For this reason, in cooperation with "Hilfswerk Niederösterreich" in 2020 Markas set up the "Keep Balance" telephone hotline, which all employees can take advantage of - free of charge, anonymously and absolutely confidentially.

The hotline serves as a contact point in personal crisis situations and works with psychologists or psychotherapists that are always available to help our employees with professional or private worries and problems.
