Reduction of plastic consumption
Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of the circular economy. The three Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – play a central role in this context.
Markas is committed to selecting suppliers and products that take strategies and policies for reducing plastic consumption into account, particularly when it comes to new plastic materials.
The level of a product’s sustainability is also determined by its packaging. Often, the focus is placed solely on the environmental impact of the product itself, while the impact of the packaging, container, or bottle is overlooked.
Our main supplier of chemical products, Werner & Mertz, with whom an international cooperation agreement has been concluded, has obtained the “Cradle to Cradle” certification (which refers to an idealized, closed-loop material cycle modeled on nature, in which all materials of a product remain within the cycle after use and can be reused 100%), rewarding products developed with circular economy principles in mind.
In the 2025 financial year, Markas achieved remarkable progress: 29,686 kg of carbon dioxide (CO₂) were saved, representing an improvement of around 18% compared to the previous year.
Significant progress was also achieved in reducing plastic waste:
with savings of 1,913 kg, the reduction increased by approximately 73% compared to the previous year.
In addition, 9,454 kg of crude oil were saved, which also corresponds to an improvement of around 18% compared to the previous year. With the Green Care Performance Calculator, specially developed by Werner & Mertz, this can even be tracked precisely down to the level of individual sites.
Note: The calculation was carried out using the Green Care Performance Calculator at get.wmprof.com.
