Delegation of the business trip

St. Pölten meets Bolzano – Markas as a bridge between two strong regions

27.06.2025 - Austria - Italy

As part of its twelfth business delegation trip, the city of St. Pölten led a high-level group of representatives from politics, business, and academia to the South Tyrolean capital of Bolzano.

On board were Mayor Matthias Stadler, numerous executives, and representatives of local universities and companies. The goal of the trip was to build synergies, foster exchange, and learn from one another – a goal that was successfully achieved in Bolzano.

Markas as a Connecting Element
A highlight of the program was the visit to the headquarters of Markas, the internationally operating service company with its main office in Bolzano and an important site in St. Pölten. The guests were welcomed by CEO Evelyn Kirchmaier at the impressive Markas Tower – a modern twelve-story office building.

In a moderated discussion with South Tyrolean Governor Arno Kompatscher, the central role that people play in South Tyrol’s economic success became clear.

“As a service provider, people are at the center of everything we do. Our employees should feel comfortable in their working environment,” emphasized Markas owner Christoph Kasslatter during the guided tour. The open architecture and the active involvement of staff in the building’s planning process reflect this philosophy.

Bridging Universities
Another key topic of the visit was the strengthening of cooperation between the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. In a meeting with Rector Alex Weissteiner and University Director Günther Matha, joint perspectives were explored. Both cities are home to young, innovative universities with strong practical orientation – ideal conditions for future educational and research collaborations.
A glimpse into the future at the NOI Techpark
The visit to NOI Techpark showcased Bolzano’s forward-looking approach to research and technology. The delegation from St. Pölten gained insight into spectacular research projects – from an artificial stomach for studying digestion to the terraXcube, a globally unique climate chamber for testing materials and simulating extreme altitudes and temperatures.

A meeting on equal terms
The meeting with Bolzano’s newly elected mayor Claudio Corrarati was another strong symbol of open and equal dialogue. Other stops on the trip included the Bolzano Chamber of Commerce and Alpitronic, an innovative company leading the way in ultra-fast charging solutions for electric vehicles.

A strong signal for networking and collaboration
The journey was once again expertly organized by the team at Ecopoint, led by Christoph Schwarz and Bernadette Schwab.

This year’s business trip underlines once more: St. Pölten and Bolzano not only share geographical proximity and economic potential – they also share a future-focused vision of collaboration, which Markas exemplifies as a company with deep roots in both regions.
