
What are the Austrian Green Planet Building Awards?
The Austrian Green Planet Building Awards (AGPB) are a joint project of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action and ‘Aussenwirtschaft Austria’, a department of Advantage Austria, the official Austrian Foreign Trade Promotion Organisation of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO).
The award is dedicated to buildings that have been constructed (or renovated) abroad using Austrian architectural, design and technological services. The buildings are distinguished by maximum energy efficiency, low environmental impact, space comfort and high quality construction standards according to the criteria of the Austrian climate protection initiative ‘klimaaktiv’.
They, therefore, represent an example of multidimensional efficiency, which on the one hand combats climate change and on the other hand aims at ensuring a quality workplace for employees.

What we did
Sustainability and employee well-being go hand in hand at Markas, as they are considered cornerstones of our corporate philosophy. For this reason, the new headquarters in Bolzano, designed by the Austrian architectural firm ATP, includes several green elements (1,800 plants), open spaces dedicated to employees’ relaxation, and controlled ventilation systems to keep air levels clean.
These solutions have created a natural and healthy work environment for employees, while at the same time they highlight the importance that we, at Markas, place on sustainability.
In addition, the building was constructed with low-energy materials that minimise the presence of harmful elements. This constitutes a further demonstration of our commitment and care for both our environment and our employees.
