Our commitment to inclusion: Lorenzo’s story and the “Porta Aperta” project in Pavia

Promoting workplace inclusion for people with disabilities in Pavia: Lorenzo’s Story

03.12.2025 - Italy

At Markas, we strongly believe that inclusion and diversity are core values.

This is why we are committed to promoting workplace inclusion  and creating real opportunities for people with disabilities, helping them grow and develop their potential.

One example of this commitment is the “Porta Aperta” project, a social inclusion initiative promoted by the Municipality of Pavia , to which we have been contributing for several years.

Thanks to this initiative, Lorenzo, a young man with disabilities and a great passion for cooking, had the opportunity to join a training program that allowed him to acquire practical skills and at the same time grow professionally within the collective catering sector.

Today, Lorenzo plays a key role in our catering services, carrying out his work with passion and dedication.

His story is a testament to our commitment to promoting a more inclusive and equitable society, and it reflects the attention we dedicate to local communities and the regions in which we operate.

Generating shared value and creating a lasting social impact

“Supporting local communities is a fundamental pillar of our company vision.

We firmly believe that synergy with the local area and institutions is key to generating shared value and building projects capable of creating a concrete and lasting social impact.

Over these ten years, through numerous initiatives, we have supported young people and adults with vulnerabilities along training and personal development paths, encouraging their social and professional integration.

We continue this commitment with a sense of responsibility and pride, working closely with local communities. In this context, work is not just a tool for independence but represents an element of identity and an important vehicle for inclusion and active participation in community life.”
says Luca Fantin, Markas’ Human Resources Director.

Our commitment to our community and the future

Every day, we work to break down cultural barriers and create working conditions that allow everyone to express their potential.

In the future, we will continue to invest in initiatives that ensure equal opportunities and promote collaboration with organisations and partners, who share our values and vision. Our goal is clear:  ensure that our mutual commitment to inclusion and diversity translates into a positive and lasting impact for all.
