Breaking Stereotypes: building a more inclusive workplace

29.05.2025 - Italy

In our daily work, even small actions matter. Without realizing it, we might rely on stereotypes — generalized beliefs that assign specific traits to entire groups of people.

Common phrases like “young people don’t want to work” or “older people don’t understand technology” may seem harmless, but they often hide deep-rooted biases.

At Markas, we believe that recognizing and challenging stereotypes is key to creating a workplace that is fair, welcoming, and open to everyone.
What are stereotypes and where do they come from?

Stereotypes stem from our experiences, cultural background, upbringing, and the society around us.

Our brains use them as shortcuts to process information quickly. But when left unexamined, they can lead to snap judgments and unconscious bias, affecting how we relate to others.

These mental shortcuts oversimplify people’s identities and limit our ability to truly understand and value one another.
What can we do together?

At Markas, we’re committed to promoting an inclusive culture where everyone feels heard, respected, and valued.

But real change also comes from individual actions, repeated every day:

  • Use kind and respectful language

  • Reflect on your automatic thoughts and assumptions

  • Focus on what makes each colleague unique, beyond any label

By cultivating a more open and thoughtful mindset, we can strengthen our relationships, work better together, and shape a workplace culture that truly values diversity.
Our commitment goes on

This initiative is one of many that Markas is implementing to uphold the principles of Gender Equality Certification.

It’s a meaningful recognition of our daily commitment to fairness, inclusion, and the well-being of all employees.
